The journey so far (of Living Your Dream Life and the book – the guide to balancing your most important life areas) has uncovered that time and money have dramatic impacts on our ability to prioritise and take positive action towards enhancing the areas of our lives that are truly important to us. However the capacity we have to change our lives should not be limited by money. It should only be a function of our willingness to make positive change in our lives. It should only be limited therefore by our thinking.
The power to make positive change, to balance our lives, lies within our ability for metacognition, that is thinking about our thinking. Thinking about how we think. How we process things. How we reflect on our thoughts.
What this reflection does is it enables us to learn (and be open to learning) and to manage our experiences, especially when we face challenges, setbacks, and competing interests.
This is about our resilience.
And it is very much about that running commentary in our heads about us and what we are doing.
(What? Is it only me who hears voices?)
No … it’s you too! It is the planning thoughts and conversations that you have, the day dreams, and it can also be that negative voice that limits our ability to change, that makes us quit, that stops us from even trying.
And it is certainly that voice that says “I don’t have time”, “I don’t have the resources”.
Thinking about our thinking changes that narrative to “how can I do this?”, “what are my options”, and changes the messages we send ourselves from “I can’t” to “I will”.
And that’s got nothing to do with money.
Learning about learning about ourselves and our thinking is the single most powerful way to make powerfully positive life choices.
